Blanchard Field

Planning and design work continues on the Town's Blanchard Street Field project.  Town staff and the Town's landscape architect presented the latest field development plan at a public meeting on December 15th.  Several members of the ASA Board of Directors and Andover Little League officials attended.  The current design calls for 3 little league size baseball diamonds and one full size soccer field.  It is hoped that the new field would be available for use in time to replace the loss of Deyermond Field, expected to close in 2011.  The Town purchased the Blanchard Street land in 2007 for that purpose.  2009 Town Meeting approved $425,000 for infrastructure development at the site.  ASA has pledged to contribute $100,000 towards the project in return for a certain period of exclusive use of the soccer field portion of the complex.

The Andover Townsman ran a web poll to coincide with the fields meeting, asking 'Which sport needs field space the most?'  ASA was the top choice by far with 72.5% of the votes.

Fields at Bancroft School

The Andover Soccer Association and Andover youth sports need your help to insure the future of athletic fields at Bancroft School.  As you may know, the Town’s School Building Committee is currently considering designs for the new Bancroft School.  Some possible designs could result in a net loss of field space in Town.  Although there are certainly neighborhood concerns and other issues to be addressed, the project also presents an opportunity to improve field space at Bancroft and to make it comparable to that provided at the Town’s other neighborhood primary schools.  Please take a moment to review ASA’s position statement on this important process, then e-mail the Building Committee at SBC@APS1.net, letting them know you support their consideration of athletic fields at the new Bancroft School.  Your time and support for ASA and Andover youth sports is very much appreciated.  For ASA’s position statement on the Bancroft fields issue, click here.
